What to Expect

At Costa Acupuncture, treatments are performed on comfortable recliners or treatment tables separated by solid partitions.  There are 6 treatment tables and 2 reclining lounge chairs available for treatments at the clinic.  The reclining lounge chairs offer a comfortable treatment option for those patients who are not comfortable on a treatment table.  The treatment tables allow patients to be treated either face up or face down.

Patients are generally encouraged to choose whichever is most comfortable for them.  Occasionally, the treating acupuncturist may ask a patient to choose either a table or chair if it is required for a particular treatment protocol.

Each patient comes in at their designated appointment time and receives an individual assessment and treatment based on their own needs.  Walk-in appointments are always welcome, but those with scheduled appointment will be treated first.

Acupuncture is performed with sterile single-use needles that are disposed of immediately after they are used.  Patients will typically feel anything from nothing to slight a pinching sensation when the needles are inserted.  If there is any sharpness that persists once the needles have been inserted, you should notify your acupuncturist and they will adjust them for you.

Once the acupuncture treatment has been performed, patients are able to relax in the treatment room for 40 to 60 minutes depending on their needs.  Some patients may choose to rest for a shorter or longer periods depending on personal preference and availability.  In most cases, patients should rest for at least 30-40 minutes.

Patients are encouraged to wear loose comfortable clothing that can easily be pulled up to the knees and elbows to allow easy access to acupuncture points.
